Discrimination, aggression and terror have been a regrettable part of human history. It has repeatedly witnessed various conflicts and crises, in which some became the persecutors and others their victims. Hence, this conference seeks to examine the mechanisms and forms of oppression, subjugation and violence. In order to meet the challenges of the new humanities, we intend to adopt a broad perspective which includes the animate life, the inanimate world as well as ideas. Importantly, we wish to focus the inquiry on both the oppressors and the oppressed.
Example thematic areas include:
- mechanisms of power
- systems of subjugation and oppression
- victims of violence: people, animals, plants, objects
- methodology of research into subjugation and violence
- artificial intelligence: a potential oppressor or victim
- violence in art, art as violence
- cultural facets of subjugation and violence
